Tom Martin has been a certified prosthetist for over 32 years. Tom experienced an above-knee amputation from a farming accident in 1975. His experience in prosthetics is both personal and professional. After finishing Furman University with a Business degree, he completed his Prosthetics and Orthotics degree at Florida International University. He later completed a Master of Healthcare Administration at the Medical University of South Carolina.
He has worked as a clinician and manager in a large publicly traded company as well as in his private practice for over 20 years. He is extremely well versed on complex lower extremity amputations and technology as well as upper extremity prosthetics.
He serves as an examiner/proctor for the American Board of Certification for prosthetics. In addition, he also serves on the American Board of Certification Exam Development Committee which is responsible for writing and creating the three different sections of the Prosthetics Certification Exam.
Tom has served as an expert witness for most of his clinical career and started with Prosthetic Consulting Services in 2019. He has worked hundreds of cases for both defense and plaintiff cases. His methodology is consistent for assessing the appropriate prosthetic care for all amputee cases.
In his younger days, Tom competed in Paralympic amputee track and has completed the New York and Chicago Marathons. Tom lives with his wife on their 150-acre family farm. When not working, he enjoys exercise, golf, woodworking and spending time with his family and new grandson. There is always plenty to do!
